Finding Christ In The Chaos

By May 9, 2024Blog Posts

In the quiet, I sit. Trying to carve out a moment. Just me and Jesus.

But my mind…

It races.

Finances. Parenting and marriage. Work stress. Ministry expectations. House cleaning. House projects. The horrors on the news. My own imperfections and sin…. Staring back at me.

It can feel like trying to start a small fire while a tidal wave looms in front of me…

…A wave of life’s stresses and demands, ready to crash down.

In these moments, I remember something crucial. Something liberating.

Jesus.

Despite what my inner Pharisee tells me… Jesus actually doesn’t have massive expectations of our time together.

He’s not a taskmaster, timing my devotional time with a quota of how many “mind blowing revelations” I need to walk away with.

He’s a father.

A father happy simply because His child wants to be with Him.

In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Rest.

Not a checklist. Not a performance review. Just rest.

Jesus, the one who parts the tidal wave of cares and concerns, He walks to me. Through the chaos. Through the noise.

In Psalm 46:10, it’s written, “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Be still.

Still, one of the hardest things for me to do.

In the midst of the tidal wave, He calls for stillness.

Because in His presence, the waves don’t matter. They can’t touch me.

He is the calm. The peace. The eye of the storm.

And so, I try. Throughout my week… To sit. To be still. To listen.

Some days, it’s harder. The wave seems too high, too fierce.

But He’s there. Always.

Parting the waves.

Reaching out to me.

Reminding me that in this struggle, I’m not alone.

And in His presence, I find what my soul truly seeks.

Peace. Connection. Rest.

Even with a mind that runs at a hundred miles an hour.

Even with a world that never stops spinning.

Even though I don’t always leave those times feeling warm and fuzzy and spiritual.

Jesus is there.

Reminding me that He delights in me, and He’s building a future Kingdom where one day the storms and waves of life’s worries will *finally* be still, forever.

Until then, He is with me, simply delighting that I am with Him.
